Rosie and Christine are both exceptionally motivated to the health and wellbeing of all our clients. Our philosophy is to maintain and improve your strength and balance, whilst energizing and relaxing the body through yoga movements/postures and breathwork. Whether in a class, small group or one-to-one we like to take the holistic approach to your individual bio-psychosocial needs to enable you to age well.
Yoga, meditation, and wellbeing at Seahaven Yoga uses a variety of techniques, i.e., yoga asanas (postures) movements, guided meditation with breathwork that facilitates pratyahara (withdrawal of the senses from the outside world) and pranayama (yogic breath and wellbeing energy) enabling you to focus on your mind, body, and soul or spirit.
Rosie started regular yoga practice in 1999 on the doctor’s advice as a way to keep her arthritic knees moving. Rosie trained in Iyengar yoga for two years, and subsequently attended Hatha, Scaravelli, and Khundalini classes. It was the Vajrasati Yoga School which brought everything together, and Rosie felt she had found her spiritual home.
Rosie graduated from the Vajrasati teacher training course and holds a 500hr Yoga Alliance accredited teaching qualification, and is now a senior Teacher with the school.
Rosie has also completed further training with Fiona Agombar, to teach students with ME and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, elements of which she uses with students who have other limitations to their practice.
Rosie's teaching focuses on using the breath to deepen and extend the body, mind and spirit. Rosie encourages students to work meditatively, listening closely to their own bodies and breath, and using their inner resources to develop postures only as the body allows, and without grasping.
Rosie's current experience includes teaching more mature and less able students. She has been teaching since early 2008, and currently runs several drop-in classes in Sussex. Rosie also teaches weekend retreats, private groups and individual students. She has taught many holidays in Spain and West Crete.
Chris started her career as a nurse in the Royal Air Force where she became interested in trauma related brain injury, then becoming interested in a variety of acquired brain injuries and intensive rehabilitation.
Throughout her career, Chris studied and supported the persons ability to cope with even the most complex bio-psychosocial needs, alongside their ability whether to remain motivated or not. As an Advanced Motivational Interviewer she ultimately always aims to provide a rehabilitation or a re-enablement plan of care where appropriate. Chris also studied the implications of the ageing process and how the brain functions, qualifying as a Specialist Nurse Practitioner in Gerontology, specializing in Dementia Care and is a Dementia Care Mapper. She developed MOT (Motivational Occupational Tool) -for LIFESTYLE CHOICES and has utilized this with individuals but also in group settings within nursing and residential homes.
Chris has extensive experience of managing inter-disciplinary teams in health and social care, whilst working with individuals on their person centered goals and aspirations to maintain their health and well-being.
For seven years, Chris attended Rosie’s Vajrasati classes and recognized the physical, mental, and spiritual benefits of yoga for all ages. And in 2020, Chris undertook a diploma level yoga teacher trainer qualification. This then led her to embrace the energy centers of the body and she undertook a diploma level qualification as a Chakra and Aura Healer, which then led her to aspire to become a Reiki Master.
Vajrasati yoga was founded by Jim Tarran in 2000 and is based on traditional Iyengar yoga. The Vajrasati Teacher Training course is a Yoga Alliance Professionals Teacher Training Plus 500 RYS course which is the highest accreditation available for a teacher training course. Rosie Waters qualified as a Senior Vajrasati Yoga Teacher 15 years ago.
Vajrasati yoga combines the postures, breathing and meditation techniques of classical/modern postural yoga along with innovative explorations outside traditional postures from a conscious subtle and energetic alignment perspective. This style of yoga is suitable for everyone whatever their age or previous experience, including complete beginners.
Taking the traditional yoga, slowing it, softening it even further, to accommodate individual limitations. We encourage everyone to work at their own pace without stressing or over- committing. Again, this style of yoga is suitable for everyone whatever their age or previous experience, including complete beginners.
A primarily seated practice incorporating similar yoga asanas (postures), and guided meditation as our other classes, and also focusing on movements which have become restricted due to limitation of overall activity (e.g. fingers, neck, knees and hips). Where appropriate, we use the chair to help with standing postures and balancing, depending on the individual capabilities and needs of the group members.
Whether you want to increase your health and well-being, learn to relax and slow down, breathe deeply, or just strengthen and balance your mind-body connection, starting yoga can help. Contact us today for an informal chat if you wish to learn more.
